What would you consider to be the best practice in managing technological change? Why?

I'm not a technology person but I need some perspective on what best practices in managing technological change might look like. Any input you can offer is greatly appreciated.

1. Do not try to be on the cutting edge of technology but go with new products that have proven themselves. Do not change if your business is going well, but don't get too far behind. Rely on consultants if you cannot afford to hire your own technical staff. If you do have technical staff, learn to understand what they are telling you and don't keep them if they don't understand what you are telling them.
