How to cast a bait casting reel without backlash?

Just got a BlackMax w/ cabelas rod, took it out to the back yard with a dummy lure and I can't seem to cast with out backlash, really bad too. Never had one before.

1. bait casters take a little pratice. most have ajustments for spool tension. less easier spool spins. u need to also learn to thumb the spool when casting
2. When you throw keep your finger on the line and start out throwing small cast until you get used to it.
3. practice practice practice.......it takes time to get the feel for a baitcaster
